ChangAn is one of the state-owned, "big-four" car manufacturers in China. Established in 1862 as an industrial manufacturer serving the military, the company is widely regarded as one of the oldest in the country. Following the establishment of the CCP in 1949, ChangAn was taken over by the government and continued to manufacture military equipment and other related machinery, including vehicles.
It was only in 1984 that ChangAn entered the car manufacturing business. The company initially focused on minivans and light commercial vehicles, but later pursued rapid expansion through strategic partnerships with other automotive manufacturers, including Suzuki, Ford, and Mazda. In 2010, ChangAn expanded its vehicle lineup while continuing to improve its technology through R&D centers worldwide.
Today, ChangAn is aggressively investing in electric vehicle development to become one of the leading manufacturers in the EV market by sales volume. Their goal is to be one of the top 10 car manufacturers in the world and to have 5 million EV sales by 2030, according to GlobalChangan.com.
