Ram SUV Models: A New Chapter for the Truck Brand

SUVs are the most popular vehicles worldwide, and the trend is expected to continue. Ram, a US-based car manufacturer specializing in trucks and vans, is also seeing the trend and has finally decided to make an SUV. While a little late compared to other car manufacturers, Ram would certainly compete for buyers' attention because of its reputation for producing rugged vehicles.

Coming Soon in 2028 - A New Ram SUV

According to Auto News, Ram will introduce SUVs in 2028. Antonio Filosa, the CEO of Stellantis, recently announced the plan along with an additional mid-sized pick-up truck. Stellantis, the company behind Ram and Jeep, reportedly decided to give Ram an SUV to expand its range.

The recent announcement of a new SUV from Ram is stirring excitement, considering Ram's reputation for building rugged, powerful trucks. Using Ram's reputation on an SUV certainly gives the upcoming SUV a worthy competitor in the market.

What Do We Know So Far

Information about the upcoming Ram SUV is relatively scarce, considering it is still years away from being on sale to the public. However, it was announced that the new SUV will be made at the Warren Truck Plant in Michigan. The announcement is a little significant because the manufacturing plant is for building Ram's heavy-duty trucks.

The upcoming SUVs are also expected to introduce two general powertrains: EREV and ICE. EREVs, or Extended Range Electric Vehicles, are hybrid vehicles equipped with a small internal combustion engine. The small engine in EREV is used as a generator to extend the vehicle's range. ICE, or Internal Combustion Engine, is your traditional, fuel-powered engine.

Ram's offering of traditional, fuel-powered SUVs is expected. On the other hand, an EREV is an interesting choice because it will allow a Ram SUV to have extended range and power when needed.

Taking Cues from a Business Perspective

One of the best things about this announcement is that even though details are limited, there's already a good idea of what a new Ram SUV might look like.

Stellantis is already making SUVs through Jeep, and according to Car Buzz, the new SUV "is expected to share a lot with the Jeep Grand Wagoneer." The following are the specs of the 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer:

  • Length / Width: 216.1 inches / 83.6 inches
  • Height: 79.8 Inches
  • Wheelbase: 123.0 inches

The Wagoneer is a large SUV focusing on style and power. Its extended range powertrain, the REEV, pairs the 92-kWh battery with a 3.6-liter V6 engine. This power combination easily gives the Wagooner a 500-mile range.

The upcoming Ram will not feature the same configuration. 2028 is still years away, and new developments in EV technology could be available by then. This should give Ram more time to improve their upcoming SUV's mileage and power. The success of their EREV will also place them in a great position to attract even more buyers, as it offers fuel efficiency and savings.

Ram will also have to maintain their reputation. While they are primarily known for trucks, they are essentially known for hauling and towing heavy items. The new SUV should also have this capacity. A 2028 Ram SUV with incredible mileage and a large towing capacity can easily be a dream vehicle for any SUV owner. For its price, the 2026 Jeep Wagoneer starts at $65,000, which could be the same for Ram's upcoming SUV.
