Luxury brands always face an uphill battle when convincing potential customers why their cars are worth the price tag. Vehicles with lower price tags continue to be popular nowadays because of their affordability, and they can also be comfortable and safe to ride. So, with luxury vehicles, car makers must ensure they go beyond the basics: technology, artistic design, and upgrades should make them a compelling option compared to their relatively affordable competitors.
Volvo's 2025 sedan lineup is the perfect example of how to marry sophistication, luxury, and performance in a vehicle. Let's take a closer look at the current Volvo sedans (S60 & S90) and learn more about them!
Volvo S60 - Beauty and Power in Minimalism
Volvo has long been associated with impressive safety features that assure drivers and passengers protection from unexpected danger on the road. As they maintain their reputation for safety, Volvo also upped the ante with their design and other features. The Volvo S60 is a perfect example of its improved focus on design while maintaining key advantages for car buyers.
The S60 is available in three trims: Core, Plus, and Ultra.
The Ultra trim comes with a T8 AWD Plug-In Hybrid Engine (456 Horsepower) as standard configuration, while the other trims come with a 247-Horsepower Turbocharged 4-Cylinder Mild-Hybrid Engine. However, buyers of lower trims could also opt for a T8 AWD Plug-In Hybrid.
The S60 follows the Scalable Product Architecture design philosophy, which allows streamlined design of its vehicles. The standard dimensions of the latest S60 are as follows:
- Length: 187.9 inches
- Width: 72.8 inches
- Height: 56.6 inches
- Wheelbase: 113.1 inches
Like most Volvo cars, the S60 uses a minimalist design concept. But that doesn't mean it skimps on quality, as the comfortable and beautiful leather upholstery is a standard in all S60 trims. The S60 features a 9-inch touchscreen display for its dashboard, Google's info-tainment system with wireless connectivity options for entertainment, and 10 speakers for surround sound.
Volvo S90 - Top of the Line Flagship Sedan
The 2025 Volvo S90 is what a luxury sedan should be in many ways. Beautiful inside and out, the Volvo S90 features leather upholstery and heated seating for the driver and passengers.
As for its size, it's longer and wider than its S60 sibling:
- Length: 200.4 inches
- Width: 74.6 inches
- Height: 57.2 inches
- Wheelbase: 120.5 inches
At first glance, the S90 has a noticeably longer wheelbase. This feature contributes to its luxurious look and smoother ride.
The Volvo S90 is available in two trims: the Plus and Ultra.
Buyers can opt for a four-cylinder hybrid engine or the T8 AWD plug-in-hybrid engine for both trims. The mild-hybrid system was clocked at 6.4 seconds for its 0-60mph time while the T8-AWD was clocked at 4.5 seconds.
Complementing the beautiful, minimalist interior of the S90 is the info-tainment system powered by Google. Its 9" touchscreen located at the center of the dashboard provides additional control for the driver and entertainment options for everyone. It comes with all the impressive safety features that have now become standard in every Volvo, plus a 360-degree camera system with proximity sensors.
The End of Volvo Sedans in the US: S60 and S90
The Volvo S60 and S90 will no longer be available in the US after 2025, according to Car and Driver, for varying reasons. Volvo has already announced that 2025 will be the final year of production for the S60. On the other hand, the S90 will not be available in the US next year due to tariffs, as the S90s are made in China. It is an unfortunate turn of events for these amazing sedans. However, these models will still be seen on the road in the foreseeable future due to their popularity, comfort, and safety features.
